Dorian Yates, widely regarded as the Shadow, has etched his name in the annals of bodybuilding. He is best known for his revolutionary approach to training and his sheer dominance during the 1990s. He even won the title of Mr. Olympia six times in a row, solidifying his position as one of the most successful bodybuilders in the realm.

While Dorian Yates as successfully crafted his dominance, it is noteworthy that he even had a deep admiration for the legendary bodybuilder Tom Platz. However, when he got to meet his idol, he was not quite able to put on the impression that he had wished to.

In one of their recent interactions together, Dorian Yates and Tom Platz were seen candidly talking to each other in a video shared on YouTube. And Yates didn’t waste time to let his admiration for Platz be known. He said, “You were my hero, man. I think I got introduced to you and you know I tell the story all the time to guys.” He then went on to share how he often tells the story about what happened when he met him for the first time.

He said, “Let me tell you about me when I was young. I idolized Tom Platz and I met him and I was like ‘Hi’. That’s it. That’s all I said.” He even added that even Platz did not talk much. All he did was give a smile. It was during a photoshoot that Platz was having and the entire audience was mesmerized.

This all happened in the inaugural episode of the Shadow Talk podcast, hosted by Dorian Yates. In the video, they even rekindled their memories of the golden days of bodybuilding, when they were at the prime of their career. They even discussed how things have changed in the realm.

Tom Platz and Dorian Yates unravel the evolution of bodybuilding 

The legends began by talking about how PEDs have become a significant part of bodybuilding for athletes to grow beyond their natural capacity. But they were used during the 1960s too. However, the influence has increased now and most young people are more interested in knowing about their cycles, rather than the training methods.

While most bodybuilders are exposed to high doses these days, Tom Platz would himself go heavy during the days of competition. However, he now feels that those were a very unsophisticated process of gaining. But he also took the help of natural elements like the saltwater and beach, and that was how he balanced it.
