If you are doing everything perfectly in the gym – taking good care of nutrition, recovery, training, supplementation, and then some – yet not seeing any progress, chances are you are overtraining. It is a common phenomenon in the case of ‘newbies’ or intermediate lifters where they train over their body’s limits. While overtraining might sound or feel beneficial for once, it can lead to serious injuries, slower recovery, as well as a slower rate of muscle hypertrophy.?

During a podcast with 7X Mr. Olympia Flex Lewis, fitness influencer and IFBB Pro Dana Linn Bailey admitted that she used to train for around three hours in the gym back in the day. While she admitted that this wasn’t optimum, people from the fitness community didn’t leave a chance to come back at her in the comments.?

Vividly famous for her high-volume training style, Bailey was recently featured on a podcast along with bodybuilding veteran Flex Lewis. During the interview, Lewis praised Bailey’s will to continue training heavily after all these years. He said, “I was like holy shit she ain’t gonna tap out, she ain’t gonna tap anytime soon.”?Continuing the discussion, Bailey responded by agreeing with Lewis and even revealed that she used to spend hours and hours in the gym training. “I still train exactly the same but I would train for 3 hours..like 3 hours easy! Because I never felt like it was enough and I had that psycho next to me…I would train way too much..3 hours was like easy peasy!”, she said.

4X Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler also once mentioned?during a podcast along with Bailey that the level of intensity she trains with was unmatchable. ?Dana kicked my a*s. Yeah like when?July last year yeah she just didn?t want to stop so I trained without everyone. I trained with Phil and Ronnie and I have to say that Dana trains pretty hard still these days,? revealed Cutler. But spending more time in the gym is not gonna make you achieve your goals faster. This was exactly what was pointed out in the comments by most of the fans who believed that she was probably going for junk volume.?

Bailey faces retaliation from fans in the comments

In the pursuit of physical fitness and performance, individuals often push themselves to the limits in the gym. However, there is a fine line between optimal training and overtraining, a line that is often overseen by even experienced athletes and can result in hinder in progress. Talking along the same lines, many of the fans pointed out that what Bailey was doing was just not optimal and a risky way of working out.

While one of the users pointed out,?“Jay would train like an hour max. Dorian would be less than that. It?s how about you train. Not how long,”?another user jokingly stated,?“Female mike o?hearn.”?On the other hand, many of the fans also made fun of her natty status. While a person wrote,?“Woman with red chest lmao now that’s 190% the HGH,” another user commented by saying, “Haha she just posted something the other day saying she?s been natty for 17 years.”

Looks like the bodybuilding community may have caught on to something there. Whether this inspires new athletes to adopt novel perspectives to training, or if they choose to workout at their own pace, remains to be seen.
