Bradley Cooper perfected the role of Chris Kyle in the 2014 war drama ‘American Sniper’. To resemble Kyle, an Academy Award Nominee had to bulk up enormously to play the part. He went under a rigorous diet regime to build up his physique.

Apart from that, he also emphasized learning the nuances associated with being Kyle on screen. The actor shared the war hero’s father’s thoughts regarding him essaying his son’s role in Clint Eastwood’s film.

Cooper put in enormous efforts to fit into the war hero’s role. In the video, he opened up about how he approached the character. He revealed that the father of the deceased war veteran wasn’t sure whether he could pull off his son’s role well.

Wayne told Cooper, “You know you’re half the size of my son and you don’t sound a goddam thing like him. The first thing to do was gain the weight and get big, as big as I could.

If I don’t believe I’m Chris, no one else is going to believe it and I need to figure out how he talks,” he opined. He even reasoned out why he had to get big by further adding,” And I need to figure out how he walks and the only way to do that is to get as big as he was.

The veteran’s dad further mouthed his disbelief, “So I don’t know how you’re going to do it.” Cooper, however, destroyed all apprehensions by bulking up. He gained 44 pounds for the role by following a disciplined high-calorie diet.

Jason Walsh, Cooper’s trainer for the role, revealed that the actor consumed liquid calories to put on pounds. The reason behind it being they are easily consumable and digestible. The calorie uptake of Cooper increased week after week, starting from 2000 to a whopping 4500.

The actor also trained as religiously as he could. Cooper dedicated more focus to the elevated trap bar deadlift exercise. His strenuous efforts paid off as he achieved a physique similar to Kyle’s. As a result, he successfully portrayed the role of the war veteran, earning him a nomination for the Academy Award.
