Seven-time Mr. Olympia Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s switch to Hollywood from bodybuilding was a smooth one. He made his debut in 1974, this was also the same year when he won his first Olympia title. Schwarzenegger never looked back as he enjoyed the success and glamor of showbiz. He established himself as one of the best action movie stars of his time, dropping blockbusters like ‘Terminator’ and ‘Conan.’

During his time with TV actress Alison Hammond, among many other things, the bodybuilding veteran was asked about the reality behind action scenes in movies. This is when he depicted Alison, and how punches are actually shot in Hollywood. Using Alison, Schwarzenegger portrayed how a fake punch is portrayed as the real one on camera.

Proving his mettle in the world of action movies countless times, there can be no better teacher at this point to educate us about the reality behind action movies. His most iconic performances out of all were in ‘Conan the Barbarian’ and ‘Terminator’ franchises. As Schwarzenegger reunited with Alison recently, he revealed that in Hollywood, the camera angles are such that it looks like a real punch, when in reality the punch never connects.

During the episode, Alison asked, “Could you teach me how to do a good punch?” To this, Schwarzenegger agreed. “I come across here, and then when I pass…that’s when you start going sideways,” he replied as he tried to teach her the art of punching on camera.

While it certainly looked like Schwarzenegger punched Alison, she later explained that it was Alison’s timing that made it look real. She explained, “Nice extension from ‘Arnie’ there, but look how I sell it. That’s a technical Hollywood term.”

Jokingly, Alison concluded by saying, “Join us again in about four years for part three: Arnie does car crashes.”

A short while back, it was also disclosed that Arnold and other members of the cast of ‘Conan the Barbarian’ drank fake blood on the sets of the movie. But why is that? Let’s take a look.

The reason behind this weird routine

The shooting of ‘Conan’ took place in Almeria due to the fact that it had a diverse terrain available. According to movieweb.com, the fake blood that was used during the shooting often froze due to the cold weather in the area.

The fake blood that is used in shootings is a mixture of a deep-crimson concentrate and water. To prevent it from freezing, the crew mixed vodka in it.

This is why, “In scenes where actors are attacked and spit up blood, many of them would “accidentally” swallow the alcoholic blood instead, then request more from the effects team.”
