7x Mr. Olympia Arnold Schwarzenegger is a highly accomplished individual. From his dominance in the sport of bodybuilding to his notable accomplishments in the world of acting through his iconic roles, Schwarzenegger has experienced a fulfilling life. Throughout this journey, ‘The Austrian Oak’ has definitely made some good friends. One of his closest friends from the entertainment world is Tom Arnold. 

The duo worked together on the sets of ‘True Lies’, which were a tremendous success. Tom played the role of a perfect side-kick for Schwarzenegger and almost during these last three decades, the movie has earned a whopping $378 million together. The iconic duo is poised to make a comeback on screen with the upcoming release of Netflix’s new web series ‘FUBAR.’ During a recent interview ahead of the premiere, Tom disclosed a lesser-known incident that occurred on the set of ‘True Lies.’

How did Tom and Schwarzenegger become friends?

With ‘FUBAR’ set to release on May 25th, Arnold recently spoke with Tudum about his role as Carlson in this Netflix series and his decades-long friendship with Schwarzenegger. During all this, thinking about the past events, Arnold revealed that during the shoot of ‘True Lies,’ the director demanded a better understanding between the duo of the movie’s quality improvement. Furthermore, he disclosed that Schwarzenegger had a redecorated trailer truck gym where he would go after the shoot, while Tom would visit Ben & Jerry’s ice cream.

Moreover, “Then the movie started going over time and over budget. It was supposed to take three months — I think it took seven,” revealed Arnold. One day after the shoot, Tom wished Schwarzenegger good luck when ‘Arnie’ showed interest to join Tom for “two pints of rum raisin.”

This was the turning point in their friendship, according to Tom, who said, “And from that point on for a while, we started eating ice cream together, and he was a little depressed. He gained some weight. And I felt, “Oh, now we have a real friendship.” 

“Because there was no way he was pulling me up to his level, but just the fact I could pull him down to my level — that’s a friendship, man. That’s a human friendship,” pointed out Tom. 

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Tom Arnold are reuniting almost 30 years later in Schwarzenegger’s first-ever TV series FUBAR. For a long time, Tom has been looking for the proper opportunity to share the screen with his real-life pal, and FUBAR looked like the perfect fit. Schwarzenegger plays Luke Brunner, an undercover CIA spy, while Tom plays the role of an old friend, Carlson. The series will be available to watch on Netflix on May 25th.
