In this era, when new studies are being conducted every day on various dietary options and training patterns, a new revelation made on Instagram recently might amaze many. 

In an Instagram reel shared by a page, Peter Attia reveals a fascinating fact about the correlation between high muscle mass and diabetes. He explained how having a muscular frame can prevent an individual’s health by regulating the metabolism.

Multiple research and studies in the past have indicated that higher muscle mass can prevent or fight against Type-2 diabetes. According to Internal Journal of Cardiology, weight training can help regulate sugar much more compared to cardio. Talking about the same, the Canadian-American physician revealed that bigger muscles lead to better metabolism as well as acts as a disposing area for glucose. 

 

In the video, Attia revealed, “Muscles are where you dispose of glucose. The difference between you and someone with type two diabetes so bad that they’re going to get their digits amputated, is an extra one teaspoon of glucose in the bloodstream.”

Adding to this, he said, “The most important part of blood sugar regulation is having muscles that are big enough to put the glucose into and that are insulin sensitive enough to respond to the signal of insulin.”

Attia’s previous statements regarding type-2 diabetes

A while ago during an interview with the NY Times after he launched his new book ‘Outlive: The Science & Art of Longevity’ came out, Attia talked about several health-related topics. Amidst these topics, he was asked, “If you were to say to someone, “If you don’t do anything else to increase your health span, at least start doing X,” what would X be?”

Replying to this, he stated that increasing muscle mass will always come in handy. He said, “Count the number of times in human history when someone in the last decade of their lives said: “I wish I had less muscle mass. I wish I was less strong.” The answer is zero.”
