Frank Zane, the aesthetically gifted bodybuilder still contributes to the bodybuilding community with his immense knowledge in the field. To the unversed, he won over Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1968 Mr.Universe competition, apart from being a 3x Mr. Olympia champion. For choosing body conditioning over mass, he is regarded as the King Of Symmetry in bodybuilding. And now he shares his expertise on his social media which is well-received by rookie bodybuilders. 

In a recent post on Instagram, the 80-year-old bodybuilder opens up about the right way of tracking the progress of the training regime.

Frank Zane’s thoughts on tracking progress

The Golden Era’s bodybuilding legend shared an adorable picture of his younger self sporting a broad smile with a cat in his hands. The caption of the post, however, cannot be taken lightly.

Zane wrote in the caption of the post, ”Keeping track of the weights, sets, and repetitions is how we can ascertain and how we are progressing in our workouts.” So, he emphasized tracking the workout regime carefully to mark the progress in the training for any competition.

If you are getting stronger, you are growing muscle, providing the strength,” he adds. However, he cautions not to evade exercises to see the desired results. In his opinion, ”Increases are made with good form and not cheating on exercises.” ‘The Chemist’ also frequently advises bodybuilders to rely upon photos rather than mirrors to monitor the physique.

The 80-year-old’s inclination to photographs

Bodybuilders generally rely upon measurement and scales for tracking progress but not Frank Zane. The Hall of Famer opted for photographs to clearly understand the progress made after every training session during his heyday.

I never took measurements, only photos, I was always based entirely on appearance,’ he said in one of his previous posts. He also asks the rookies to ditch mirrors for posing. Instead, he suggests taking only photographs to look at the true body definition after a workout.
