Legendary bodybuilder Flex Wheeler was among the frontrunners in the bodybuilding world in the 90s and early 2000s. However, owing to his health issues the bodybuilder had to step down from the stage for his own good. Throughout his lifetime, the veteran has undergone countless surgeries, primarily to deal with his rare kidney disease. However, his troubles are far from over.

As the bodybuilder learns to get accustomed to life away from the spotlight, he is faced with another inevitable challenge. Aging. In a recent Instagram post, the veteran confessed about his recent struggles. He also had an encouraging message for his followers.

Flex Wheeler shares a life update

In his latest video, the 57-year-old shed light on the challenges of growing old and dealing with life. He added, “I truly understand coming from an elite athlete to becoming a business man, dealing with amputation and all the pain that I go through. I’ve literally had over 20 surgeries in the last two years.”

He further revealed that in recent times he has consulted several nutritionists and surgeons to help him with the pain. However, despite the research he hasn’t found a favorable answer. He added, “I couldn’t train the way I used to. I had to relearn how to train based on my strengths and my weaknesses. But I wanna encourage you. You have to continue.”

Wheeler encouraged his fans to not give up when faced with difficulties. He also revealed that he continues to train though he has no plans of stepping on the stage again.

So why does he still train?

The Sultan of Symmetry emphasizes that he trains not to be on stage but for his life now. “I don’t care about being on stage again,” he added. Flex Wheeler asserts making a comeback isn’t even a possibility now. His motive is to stay active. Wheeler further added, “But I do wanna encourage you guys to continue whatever it is you’re going through. Do as much research as you can. Be diligent.” Toward the end of the video, Wheeler got overwhelmed by emotions. He revealed it was because it hit close to home.

However, he continued to record it because it wasn’t just about him anymore. It’s about his family, friends, and the people who look up to him. In the end, he reminded them to work hard and keep pushing forward. Despite, his struggles, Wheeler continues to inspire his fans.
