Former WWE star Adam Copeland aka Edge has revealed the intense journey he underwent to regain his fitness levels, ignited by the responsibility of fatherhood. In a recent appearance on Chris Van Vliet’s podcast, the AEW wrestler reflected on his wrestling career and the challenges he faced staying fit.

During the interview, when asked about his extensive career, Copeland admitted, “I don’t really think about it a whole lot until I sit down and kind of do an interview and we start going back and then it starts to refresh my memory.” He recalled memories, like a match against the iconic Road Warriors in Puerto Rico, admitting to forgetting certain aspects of his storied career over time.

Then the host smoothly transitioned toward asking Edge about his fitness journey, to which the 50-year-old confessed that it was a tough road. While Chris complimented Edge by saying that he was in the best shape of his life. Copeland responded and admitted, “It’s things that I took for granted before I can’t now and I have to work harder now than I did before um which is a good thing.”

This renewed commitment stemmed from a desire to be present for his daughters, a sentiment that kickstarted his journey back to fitness. As he aptly puts it, “It all started with just being around for my girls… and then here we are four and a half years into a comeback that I never thought would happen.”

Moreover, Copeland’s fitness regimen centered around planking, a simple yet effective exercise. “I started with planks,” he explained, detailing how the initial difficulty led him to incorporate them into his routine. Recognizing the strain traditional planking put on joints, Copeland and his friend Jay brainstormed a solution.

An innovation that might change people’s lives, says Adam Copeland

It is from this desire that the concept of the Pure Plank was born—a device designed to maintain strict form while alleviating joint stress. The journey from idea to reality was not without its challenges, especially amidst a global pandemic. However, Copeland’s determination saw the project through to fruition. “Once we cleared the pandemic, that’s when it got serious and it got real,” he remarked.
