According to his post, he weighed an impressive 270lbs, showcasing a blend of solid mass and supreme conditioning. This was a pivotal moment in his preparation, revealing a physique that hinted at contest readiness.

The Shadow, known for his fearless approach, said, “I wasn’t afraid to lose muscle mass when cutting because I knew I had plenty of it so that wasn’t an issue for me.” His goal was audacious- to shock the world by combining massive size with absolute shredded conditioning, leaving judges in shock, “WTF is that!” As he reflected on his competitive journey, Yates shared, “Each year of my competitive bodybuilding career was a learning step.”

From the amateur days to the Olympia contests, he continually expanded his knowledge and focused on self-improvement. Despite being in constant condition, showcasing details like striated glutes and a Christman tree lower back, Yates was already an imposing figure. However, he eventually competed with a weight of 257 Lbs weight. He astonishingly lost an incredible 13 lbs in just six weeks.

As he strived for a physique with paper-thin skin and a face resembling Skeletor, the 60-year-old pushed the boundaries of what was considered possible during competitions. However, despite conquering Olympia several times, he never moved to America to train further unlike others. The question here is why he never left England.

In a previous post, he candidly revealed the reason why he never left England despite making a name for himself in America is because of Temple Gym. The Mass Monster articulated a story from the past when faced a setback just three weeks before the Olympia show. He tore his tricep. Many would have quit, but he lives by a “No Surrender!” mindset. Despite the pain, he kept grueling hard in the gym.

He credits his success not just to strength but also to Temple Gym’s special atmosphere. The gym had a code of honor– what happens there stays there. This secrecy shielded him from competitors. Temple Gym was more than a workout place; it was family. Yates felt unique support and trust. Grateful for his journey, he values his gym buddies, emphasizing their shared code of silence. That kept him staying in his home country.
