Bodybuilding legend Arnold Schwarzenegger appeared on the retired navy seal and author Jocko Willink’s podcast. During the podcast, while speaking about Arnie’s work ethic, the 76-year-old explained how hard work was his key to success in all fields. Schwarzenegger explained how a Ted Turner quote inspired him.

The Austrian Oak, Willink, and his co-host Echo Charles spoke about Schwarzenegger’s work ethic. Besides being a bodybuilding icon, the Hollywood action icon also mastered advertising. The seven-time Mr. Olympia explained how he followed Ted Turner’s words and learned how to sell something to others. Pitching works well, after all!

Arnold Schwarzenegger explained he grasped everything about California when he ran for governor in order to win the debates with other candidates. So Jocko Willink said he had to put in the work despite already being prominent. So Arnie revealed his mantra, “Early to bed, early to rise, work like hell and advertise.”

Schwarzenegger said he had mastered it from entrepreneur and television personality Ted Turner. Furthermore, he emphasized the value of gaining people’s support and shared his experience of developing this ability during his time at a hardware store. Before earning fame with bodybuilding, Arnold Schwarzenegger worked multiple jobs.

While the former Mr. Universe always worked hard, he learned how to communicate after selling tiles at the hardware store. Later in life, Arnie’s work ethic and ability to sell a film made him one of the finest action stars in Hollywood. Even while serving as the governor, Arnie used this same mantra to find success.

Harnessing the power of advertising to find success

Shortly after moving to America, Arnold Schwarzenegger looked for ways to make money. Since his best friend and fellow bodybuilder Franco Columbu was a skilled bricklayer, Arnie partnered with Columbu to start a brick-laying business. However, the bodybuilding legend knew he needed to stand out.

So he put out an ad in the L.A. Times that read “European bricklayers and masonry experts.” A few had after they put out the ad and earthquake damaged homes in California, and the catchy ad attracted many customers who wanted their homes repaired.
