The Arnold Classic 2024 turned out to be everything it had promised, a four-day extravaganza that left fans in awe. The spectacular show witnessed the legendary Arnold Schwarzenegger bestowing the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award upon Jay Cutler, a four-time Mr. Olympia and three-time Arnold Classic champion.

However, there was a slight twist in the tale as Cutler didn’t receive the customary Lifetime Achievement Award. Instead, he found himself holding the same trophy presented to the winners of the Arnold Classic. But what was the reason behind this?

Before giving the award to Cutler, Arnold Schwarzenegger addressed unexpected change by making things clear. “Jay, this is the Lifetime Achievement Award. It actually looks a little different because normally it’s a huge plate or a ball, and, I was told backstage that they broke it,”

With a tinge of wit, Arnie assured Cutler that within the next month, he would receive the original award. He also mentioned, “Meantime, we’re going to present you with this here.”

Despite the unconventional presentation, Schwarzenegger showered praise on Cutler, acknowledging his extraordinary journey and accomplishments. “Just remember, it’s a Lifetime Achievement Award. We think the world of you. I think the world of you. You have been the most extraordinary – look at that – you have been an extraordinary competitor, a great Mr. Olympia, Arnold Classic winner,” stated the 76-year-old.

The Arnold Classic, known for its exceptional presentation and providing platforms to many athletes, added a unique chapter to Cutler’s illustrious career. In addition, during the acceptance speech, after receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award from his idol, Cutler was nothing but excited. He explained how, because of Arnie, he was further committed to the sport.

Through the rest of his speech as well, the 50-year-old expressed his feelings about the man who ignited his bodybuilding journey. He further delved into the impactful story of how one of Schwarzenegger’s movies shaped his aspirations.

Schwarzenegger’s role in shaping Cutler’s career

Cutler vividly recalled being captivated by Schwarzenegger’s imposing physique on screen, in his movie, The Terminator. According to Cutler, this was an encounter that fueled his decision to hit the gym on his 18th birthday. He credited the Austrian Oak as the unmatched inspiration that led him to choose bodybuilding as his path, leaving behind other conventional career aspirations.

“I want to fulfill a journey. I’ve mentioned this before, many kids want to be lawyers, doctors, professional athletes. So he (Arnold Schwarzenegger) was a major inspiration or stepping point of that.”
