Chris Bumstead is the reigning champion in the Classic Physique division at the moment. While many may argue that Bumstead is the main reason behind the division’s popularity, he surely has made a lasting impact on the sport by setting new standards for bodybuilders. Ever since the introduction of Classic Physique in 2016, Bumstead has won the title four times and is currently looking forward to getting his fifth victory.

While Bumstead joined hands with legendary coach Hany Rambod last year before winning the Mr. Olympia title for the fourth time, Cbum won three of his titles with the support and guidance of his coach and good friend Ian Valliere. As Ian himself announced his retirement just a short while ago, he also revealed in a YouTube video why he won’t work with Chris again.

In a recent Q&A YouTube video that Valliere posted on his channel, amidst many other things, he also answered the much-anticipated question of whether the duo will work together again. Bumstead is currently being coached by Hany Rambod who has 22 Olympia titles under his belt as a coach. Replying to the fan query, Valliere first explained how Hany Rambod is one of the best coaches ever in the realm of bodybuilding.

“No, no, I don’t think so. I think Hany is one of the best coaches ever. Not not just currently, I mean of all time in the sport of bodybuilding. He has accolades to support it,” Ian explained. Continuing further, he stated that under his guidance, Bumstead managed to bring the best package ever at the 2022 Mr. Olympia. “I’ve seen his work firsthand with Chris. Chris was absolutely the best he has ever been last year.”

Ian further expressed his intentions of just being there with Bumstead “as his brother” instead of being his coach. He admitted that Chris has the best coach he could find so there is no point working together again.

Valliere’s honest confession

Talking about Bumstead’s on-stage appearance at the Olympia’22, Ian pointed out that Bumstead was ripped to bones while maintaining a full look, which is very difficult to nail. He revealed that he wants to be by Chris’s side backstage in future competitions to help him as a friend.

“I mean, I don’t see why he would go back to me. You know, because he’s getting the best coach in the world. And I also think I like to be there more as a fan and a supporter. And just as his brother,” Valliere said.
