Dips are an exercise that has been used by athletes in many sports ranging from gymnastics to bodybuilding for ages. The exercise develops incredible upper-body strength and hypertrophy. However, one gym rat recently found out how there is a fine line between being good at weighted dips and ego lifting because engaging in the latter didn’t end well.
Bodybuilding legends like Arnold Schwarzenegger swore by the weighted variation of dips. However, weighted bodyweight exercises are for advanced lifters. Even the seven-time Mr. Olympia, who could deadlift 710 lbs, didn’t add too much weight while performing weighted dips. While the unidentified man suffered a horrible pec tear in the video, the bodybuilding community didn’t have any kind words for him!

In the video posted by the Instagram page ‘Bodybuilding News Online (Brazil)’, a man can be seen doing weighted dips. The man in the video had at least five 25 lbs plates hanging from his waist. Hence, the bodybuilder had suspended 125 lbs from his waist before mounting the dip bars. While the man’s body weight remains unknown, he had clearly bitten off more than he could chew.

The gym goer went all in and completed three reps. However, the weight seemed too much, and the man dipped down too far, stretching his pectoral muscles beyond their limit. While trying to squeeze out a 4th rep, his right pec tore off with a loud snap. Even he had a look of shock on his face.
The man immediately dismounted, clutching his chest in pain. Despite witnessing the horrific injury, the bodybuilding community made some harsh comments about the bodybuilder. What did they say?
The bodybuilding community didn’t feel sorry for the ego lifter
The bodybuilding community immediately labeled the man an ego lifter. “Terrible… Lifting with ego. He has a lot to learn,” commented one follower. Another user was very disappointed, “Way too heavy… When will these guys learn? Complete rupture.”

Another fan harshly rebuked the ego lifter’s actions. “It seems that’s rampant. People breaking s***, doing stupid s***,” wrote the follower.
“He just tore his small headed bicep tendon off,” wrote another.
