The bodybuilding journey towards a Sandow trophy isn’t an easy one. Bodybuilders follow a rigorous training regime, survive on strict diets, and sustain injuries on their way. Even the legendary Chris Bumstead’s bodybuilding journey to four Mr. Olympia titles aptly reflects this. However, pushing to extremes till eternity is not possible, for there comes a time when every bodybuilder must retire from the stage.
Adding perspective to his thoughts of late, Chris Bumstead posted a message about his decision to pursue the sport for a bit longer. The bodybuilding icon, who has remained open about his retirement plans, announced that it is not yet time for him to leave the Mr. Olympia stage. But as resolute as he is, his convictions couldn’t stop him from getting emotional about the eventual possibility.

CBum has made a name for himself in the recent bodybuilding scene with his shredded physique, which reminds his followers of Golden Era bodybuilding icons such as Arnold Schwarzenegger. Another aspect that brought his fans close to his character was his transparent nature. Oftentimes, the bodybuilding icon openly discusses his shortcomings and how he constantly tries to improve himself.
In his latest post, an emotional CBum reflected upon one heartbreaking issue that plagues every player in every sport – quitting at the right moment. Keeping his followers updated, the bodybuilding icon wrote in the post,
“Sometimes it’s easier to stay stuck in the things making us miserable because they’re comfortably familiar, or maybe we’ve attached our identity to it.” Further stating that such situations make quitting a heroic task, he underlined, “This when quitting is the courageous decision.”

Pondering upon the obstacles he faced during his prep for Mr. Olympia 2023, he called it “challenging” to even start the process. However, he is not giving up on his Mr. Olympia dreams any time soon.

Bumstead has often spoken about taking breaks from his training schedule to give his aching body some rest in order to to recuperate from stress and cortisol inflammations, and heal any injuries. Just days prior to his stage appearance in Mr. Olympia 2022, the inevitable happened. In an episode of Dont Be Sour, Bumstead admitted, “Right after Olympia I literally take time off the gym. This year I tore my bicep, so I took eight weeks off training completely.
“Thursday, before the show I’m like, ‘It really hurts.’ Friday, it hurt even more, and on Friday night it is all red and swollen. I’m like, ‘No injuries for a year, and now the day before I compete with my biceps like torn and inflated.”
CBum persevered and still went on to flex his striking 20-inch biceps and lift that Sandow Trophy for the fourth time. Regardless, the 28-year-old has gone through some tough training times as he has had to cope with health issues and injuries.

Managing to stay at the top of the game is emotionally and physically taxing. As CBum tore his bicep just a couple of days before the prestigious event, eventually, his emotions got the better of him. and he ended up crying in the bathroom, moments before Mr. Olympia. CBum confessed,

“I kinda had one of my Cbum moments in the bathroom, crying. I got on my knees in front of this mirror in this private bathroom and I looked at myself and I was like, ‘What’s going on man?” Soon, the resilient champion motivated himself and appeared on stage, striking poses.

Such is the CBum way of dealing with the crisis, and fans love his resolve to fight despite the struggles he undergoes. With the 2023 Mr. Olympia event only a couple of months away, the Classic Physique champion is intensifying his training. His fans can now relax, as he feels the time for him to quit has not yet arrived.
