The fitness world can never overcome the online consumption of fitness-related content like various fad diets and exercise routines. As awareness of eating healthy increases across different sections of society, exercise scientist Mike Israetel brings his perspective on the best foods to live a fit life.
Israetel has rich experience in the fitness field, as he holds a doctorate in Sports Physiology and served as a sports nutrition consultant at the U.S. Olympic Training Site in Johnson City, Tennessee. His latest video on the Renaissance Periodization YouTube channel touched upon the best foods for muscle growth. And the exercise scientist made shocking revelations about vegan food.

Veganism has gained popularity in the recent past. While a few follow vegan diets for health benefits, others turn vegan to prevent animal cruelty. However, many find vegan diets restrictive and lack a few essential nutrients.
Israetel, however, believes that vegan foods were much healthier in the 1990s. However, it is not the case of late, according to him. “When you look at the kinds of folks that vegans used to be in the 90s and early 2000s before the vegan junk food industry was born, they were some of the healthiest people on the planet,” he confessed in his video.
He further explained how they never indulged in meat, and with some “right vitamin supplements,” Israetel believed they remained super healthy for the rest of their lives. However, that is not the case now. He also assured in his video that the nutrients required by the body can come from a wide variety of food groups. Earlier, the bodybuilding coach discussed the negative effects of late-night snacking.
The exercise scientist shares a nightmarish incident
Midnight binge eating has become a trend among youngsters lately. Watching their favorite web series and snacking on their favorite dish has become routine. But Israetel once shared a disaster he faced after eating a bowl of cereal late at night. In Dave Tate’s podcast, the exercise scientist recalled how he felt choked after having cereal before going to bed.

“So I am like woke up choking to the death and vomit,” he confessed in the episode and reasons it out, suggesting that the food traveled from the esophagus to the windpipe. After being irritated for a while, he coughed with all his force and vomited all the cereal with milk.
