Bodybuilder turned Hollywood star Arnold Schwarzenegger’s career has transitioned through a series of climbs and declines. However, the actor has never failed to make the best out of every situation he was in. Similarly, after his 1993 film, Last Action Hero stooped down the box office charts. He instantly got to work on his next project. 

During the shoot of his $120 million budgeted film, True Lies, Arnie once turned his work into a full-fledged family adventure, as revealed in his autobiography. He reminisced about the time with his family in 1993, when his ex-wife, Maria Shriver, was 8 months pregnant with their son, Patrick, and director James Cameron, had arranged for the whole family to stay together.

According to the book, the 75-year-old icon was disheartened with his action movie going flop but his passion was not yet dimmed. He began working on another action-comedy project with a notable filmmaker, Cameron. At the same time, his wife was pregnant when the filming began. Shriver announced her maternity leave from work and tagged along with Arnie. Thus, the star couple got the best of both worlds while on the project, as the star claimed that they turned the “making of True Lies into a family adventure.

“Cameron arranged it so that we would shoot in LA for three weeks until Patrick was born,”  the star athlete wrote in his book, Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story. Afterward, the filming moved to Washington, DC, and soon enough, Arnie’s entire family of four, along with their nanny, joined him on the shoot travels.

A month in DC allowed ample time for the actor’s family, as he played around with his little girls and worked with Cameron at night, based on the latter’s preference. “We were like gypsies for the next several months,” the former athlete noted. Later on, the family moved to Miami with the production, where he took his kids jet skiing. After another set of trips to Key West and Rhode Island, the family finally got back to the West. Hence, the making of the $365 million box-office hit was a memorable time for Arnie. Besides that, there is another interesting instance from the shoots that remains etched in Arnie’s heart.

After their successful partnership in the Terminator franchise, Arnie and Cameron’s adventure in True Lies was also a massive hit. Nevertheless, a particularly riveting bit of the movie was the 6’2 bodybuilding icon’s Tango sequence. This was deemed as the actor’s “most dangerous stunt” in the script.

Hence, the Austrian Oak had to take lessons and give his best for the scene to pan out well. Knowing that the actor is an amateur in the dance sphere, Cameron joked in an interview, “I sent him the script and in the margins, I put an arrow to the tango scene that said, This is your most dangerous stunt.
