The 2023 Mr. Olympia Saturday Finals started with the President’s speech. The fans of the Super Bowl of Bodybuilding will experience the most exciting finals of the Classic Physique and Men’s Open categories, and the world is waiting to witness the best bodybuilder this year who will lift the Sandow trophy.

The President of Mr. Olympia, Dan Solomon, is super proud of the event that first started in 1965, as he states why it is different than other popular sports in America.

While speaking at the inaugural session of the Saturday Finals at Mr. Olympia in Orlando, the President compared bodybuilding with the NFL, MLB, and NBA. “Now imagine that of the 80,000 people that pack up the football stadium for the Super Bowl, very few of them, if there are any, will ever experience the thrill of intercepting a football or scoring a touchdown,” the promoter of Mr. Olympia suggested. 

“And now imagine anybody who are at the World Series the other night; very few of them would ever know what it feels like to stare down the barrel of Major League Baseball. And you have NBA Finals, and I can promise you that only a selection few in that arena have ever experienced the gruel of dunking a basketball, ” Dan Solomon added with confidence.

“That’s what makes the Olympia different because each of you wakes up every single day and devotes your life to that transformational spirit of being the best version of yourself of training, dieting, or nutrition of becoming stronger, becoming better,” the President proudly noted. “We don’t buy a ticket to the show! We live this life,” Solomon asserted on the Mr. Olympia 2023 stage. But how did Mr. Olympia become so crucial in the bodybuilding division?

The Super Bowl of Bodybuilding

Joe Weider and Ben Weider started the Mr. Olympia championship in 1965 under the aegis of the IFBB. While other bodybuilding events like NABBA Universe promoted the sport till then, Olympia took over as the most celebrated event in the arena, with major figures like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lee Haney, Ronnie Coleman, and Jay Cutler dominating the stage.

The 7x Mr. Olympia Schwarzenegger played a crucial role in promoting the event. Joe Weider invited him to participate in the event in the late 1960s. The Austrian Oak dominated the Mr. Olympia stage in the early 1970s. The Pumping Iron documentary, which captured the life of bodybuilders leading up to the Mr. Olympia 1975 championship, further fueled the event’s popularity.
