Tom Platz, better cited as the Quadfather, is the 68-YO American bodybuilder known for his natural leg conditioning maxed at 30 inches. While the acclaimed and illustrious bodybuilding veterans like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mike Mentzer, Carlos Rodriguez, and many more in the 70s kicked off as humble beginnings. Nevertheless, Thomas Platz a.k.a Tom Platz has a rags-to-riches story, as he was broke and could not even afford the Gold gym membership until he won Mr. Universe.
Though he retired from his favorite sport in 1986, he still coaches and arranges seminars on leg development and bodybuilding, while he is still reaping the perks of a healthy diet. Recently, the Quadfather posted a clip on his YouTube channel talking about the squats Arnold and Courtney did in Pumping Iron, the movie that depicts the golden age of bodybuilding with two major competitions, Mr. Olympia and Mr. Universe.

The Golden Eagle kicked off the monologue on his YouTube short by saying, “Arnold and Courtney did that squat thing for the movie.” Taking a trip down his memory lane, Platz recollected the moments from the 70s when he used to perform the exercises, especially the squatting, that were deemed to be incorrect by many. Additionally, he quotes, “Nobody ever squatted really, they did it for the movie. The squat rack and I started using it on, on a regular basis, I was told that this wasn’t right.”
Moreover, he takes into account what others said, “When you do something that is against the grain, it’s not popular. You’re told that you are doing it wrong.” Tom Patz finally sums it up by saying, “It’s just now people are saying that your training methodology was on point. 35 years for people to say, hey he was actually right.”
Platz then expressed what he actually felt at that time when he was getting trained at the gym by quoting, “I wanted to go to the gym and express myself from within. Like any artist does.” As a young bodybuilder at that time, he ingrained the skill of squatting from bodybuilding professionals of the early 60s and 70s. Now when the Golden Eagle is in his sixties, he emphasizes the significance of squatting.

Tom Platz talks about the rarity and seriousness of this exercise by saying, “Nothing’s like squats, I mean there’s a reason people don’t squat. It’s hard! But that’s why it’s so effective. The hardest things are usually effective…”

Furthermore, he adds, “if it’s easy, leave it to somebody else.” Moreover, he points out the fact that most athletes skip the drill because it’s relatively harder. Tom Platz, 30-inch quadriceps were proof of his legendary presence, and his expert advice is majorly sought after by athletes, bodybuilders, and fans across the globe.
