Brian Shaw has been a force to reckon with when it comes to Strongman Championships. He is one among five Strongman champions to have won the title four times. Furthermore, Shaw also finished in the top 5 consecutively from 2009 to 2018! Unfortunately, this year was his last World’s Strongest Man appearance.

Brian Shaw fell prey to a nasty leg infection in the 2023 contest and his condition deteriorated to the extent where he had to be hospitalized. However, he decided to give himself a little push and go for a fifth title this year, which he failed to do. However, he still holds the record for the second-highest number of WSM wins. He will perform in The Shaw Classic one last time, as he revealed at a recent event.

Brian Shaw is all set to take the stage and mark this final showdown as an unforgettable event in the bodybuilding community. He said, “I came in visualising and contemplating just what this empty arena will look like filled to capacity and how the amazing crowd will be overflowing with energy. The sounds of screaming fans crashing onto the competition floor like a thunderous wave. The smells of chalk, tacky, blood and sweat will fill the air as myself and my fellow competitors put everything on the line to be crowned Strongest Man on Earth.”

Brian Shaw’s career-ending leg infection

Brian Shaw, in one of his YouTube videos, revealed that he almost lost his leg this year in January while prepping for the 2023 WSM. He was seen lying down in a hospital bed and was talking about the situation that caused the infection. Thankfully the infection was removed before it got too late, saving Shaw’s life.

In the video, Shaw said, “The biggest thing is that it didn’t go into my bloodstream. So, if I would have waited potentially any longer, the big fear would be it going into my bloodstream… Once it does that, the outcome might not be as good, meaning possible amputation.”
