Rich Gaspari, who was placed second to Lee Haney at the Mr. Olympia in the 1980s, reveals his bodybuilding strategy.
The 60-year-old is one of the richest bodybuilders of current times and has secured an iconic name in the bodybuilding community. However, he credits his success at multiple bodybuilding shows to the compound effect approach he followed in his prime.

While training activates the muscle groups in the body, nutrition helps them to grow manifold. And every bodybuilding enthusiast is aware of the role of high-protein diets in competitors’ nutrition. But Gaspari pleads to differ. While narrating his compound effect strategy, the IFBB Pro spilled beans on his nutrition during the events.

“Nutrition was a big part of my success. I followed a lot of the other pros like Arnold Schwarzenegger. Back when they dieted for shows, they just did low-carb diets, ” Gaspari disclosed in his Instagram post. But such a diet didn’t work for him.

“I found that they didn’t work to really help me lean out. I would end up losing too much weight, flattening out,” Gaspari confessed in his post. So, the IFBB Pro followed a 40-40-20 rule where he would consume “45% protein, 35% complex carbohydrates, and 15% to 20% fat,” to build his desired physique. Gaspari also dealt with posing and presentation in his post.
How can a good presentation improve the success rate?
While training and diet are non-negotiable in the bodybuilding arena, posing will ultimately fetch bodybuilders their desired results. So, to become a great bodybuilder, Gaspari asks his followers to focus on the presentation during the competition.

“Other aspects are making sure you have a perfect tan. Even making sure you had a good haircut so that you looked really good. All these aspects of getting ready for a show when you combine them all can make a great bodybuilder,” Gaspari stated in his post.
