World-renowned skier Lindsey Vonn, who retired in 2019 due to multiple injuries, continues to inspire with her dedication to fitness. Recently, the 38-year-old athlete took to Instagram to share her “road circuit” training routine, offering a glimpse into the workouts that have helped shape her successful career.

Although she did not demonstrate all the exercises in her Instagram post, Vonn urges her followers to combine various exercises targeting distinct muscle groups. Moreover, the circuit ought to be completed three times for a well-rounded full-body workout. Adopting this training method ensures that the retired athlete sustains strength and balance throughout her body, a critical aspect of her athletic performance.

Road circuit training: A glimpse into Lindsey Vonn’s workout

Lindsey Vonn initiates her road circuit training routine with a 30-minute warm-up on the elliptical machine, striving to keep her heart rate between 140 and 150 beats per minute. Consequently, this cardiovascular activity primes her body for the intense circuit training that ensues. Comprising a series of exercises, Vonn recommends incorporating 7 to 8 exercises in each circuit, blending both upper and lower body movements.

In the caption of the video, Vonn wrote, “On the road circuit training. Warmup 30 mins elliptical hr 140-150. Circuit repeated 3 times *some exercises not shown but try to do 7-8 exercises in your circuit mixing upper body and lower body.”

In an interview with Women’s Health, the Olympic winner highlights the importance of enjoying one’s workouts and customizing them according to individual preferences. She urges people to participate in activities they truly love, as this makes the fitness journey more enjoyable and sustainable. For Vonn, spending time in the gym serves as a crucial aspect of her routine, offering consistency in her retired life. Vonn said, “Whatever you like doing is what you should be doing.”

Vonn typically works out three to four times per week, favoring morning sessions. Incorporating cardiovascular exercises as a crucial component of her routine, she partakes in these activities at least twice a week. However, it’s worth noting that Vonn has a strong aversion to running and even possesses a doctor’s note advising her to avoid it.

Rather than running, the former alpine ski racer chooses alternative cardio exercises for her workout routine. Biking often becomes her go-to option, as it delivers a low-impact yet effective cardiovascular workout. Additionally, she enjoys surfing during warm weather, which adds variety to her regimen. “I have a doctor’s note that says I should never run again in my life, and I’m okay with that,” Vonn mentioned in the interview. 

Focusing on knee health and recovery from previous injuries, the author gives priority to leg days and lifting sessions. These workouts prove vital in fortifying her knees and ensuring their lasting strength. Moreover, Vonn tackles the challenge of box jumps head-on – a high-intensity exercise that enhances her explosive power and athletic prowess.
