Emotions ran high as Hadi Choopan stormed off the stage after officials declared Derek Lunsford the winner. With this feat, the latter became the first to win two different categories at the marquee event. Earlier, Lunsford had graced the stage and won the 212 division. However, Choopan may have a sympathizer in Kai Greene, who went through a similar experience in the past.

He was surprised by the Choopan-Lunsford results. The ‘People’s Champ’, who was also seven-time Mr. Olympia Phil Heath’s biggest rival, took the silver medal thrice at the Olympia. Each time he lost the gold to Heath.

Joining other veteran bodybuilders like Samir Bannout and Milos Sarcev, who chimed in after the results, ‘The Predator’ also revealed his astonishment at how things had panned out. Taking to Instagram, ‘Generation Iron’ posted an image that signaled how Greene felt about the results.

‘Generation Iron’ captioned the post as “Kai Greene says he’s “shocked” at the Olympia decision, while Craig Golias claims he predicted it. How do you feel?” The image showcased Kai Greene’s comment below Derek Lunsford’s celebratory picture.

Craig Golias’s comment was a stark contrast to the veteran’s thoughts. “I TOLD YOU GUYS! WHOS HATING NOW!!!! SAAAAAAAAAPPPPPP,” Golias reportedly wrote on Instagram, hinting at the fact that he expected Lunsford’s victory all along.

It seems Choopan’s biggest adversary was just better, as per judges. Choopan and Lunsford, who both train under the same coach, Hany Rambod, easily set themselves apart from the rest of the competition with the help of their elite conditioning and muscle mass.

Many of the former’s admirers were convinced he did not deserve the loss, as they believed he brought a better physique than last time. Even Dorian Yates thought, ‘The Persian Wolf’ would lift the Sandow trophy once again.

Talking about Choopan, Yates said, ” So it’s hard to say precisely but just from that it looks a little bigger maybe not so hard as before but still I would say he was a clear winner in terms of overall balance and density and condition of the muscles like he was still the winner. Whether it was the better version or not.”
