Efron’s transformation for ‘The Iron Claw’ has taken his fitness journey to a whole new level. With his sheer dedication and unwavering commitment, he transformed his body for his role as Kevin Von Erich’ a wrestling champion. Before this, while portraying the character of a lifeguard in Baywatch, he felt his physique looked unreal. However, his new film required him to bulk up to justify Erich’s character.
While gearing up for this film, Efron faced some severe challenges. He had to gain more muscle while keeping his body fat low. To maintain this, he delved into an intense training routine and strict diet plan. To build a body like Erich, he worked really hard and did weightlifting, functional training, and high-intensity training (HIT).
Besides this, he also did fast and intense workouts to improve his overall health. In addition, to recover from a rigorous workout session. He turned to traditional methods such as ice baths, which make muscles less sore. Further, he ensures to sleep for at least seven to eight hours a day. Moreover, during his preparations in the last year, he tore his ACL and broke his wrist while also suffering a facial injury. Also, Efron preferred a balanced diet with proteins and healthy fats, which played a significant role in recovery from the injury.
Efron’s Baywatch workout routine
According to him, apart from physical health, it is essential to take care of mental health as well. During a press conference for the film, a YouTuber asked him several questions related to his transformation. Efron confessed that while preparing for this role, he faced more difficulties. “This was harder, man. I could. I had to put on a little more weight for this one. I was training for six months pretty hard. It drove me nuts,” said the Hollywood star.
The Iron Claw was harder for him physically, but he confessed during an old interview that when he was preparing for Baywatch, he suffered from depression. Even though he managed to shock the world with his toned physique. The transformation reportedly took just 12 weeks. He managed to put on 10 pounds of pure, lean muscle mass throughout the process.

He followed a workout session that included pushups, single-leg deadlifts, and shoulder presses.
