One of the most prestigious IPF championships in the powerlifting realm is underway in Druskininkai, Lithuania. The event which started on June 15, will go on till June 23. Every day, either a new record is formed, or a previous record is broken at the championship. Now, Carlos Petterson-Grifith has broken yet another record.
A 205-pound powerlifter, Petterson-Grifith competed in the U93kg category and broke the record for the squat. Petterson-Grifith’s squat wasn’t a walk in the park. Let’s take a look at how things unfolded at the event.
Petterson-Grifith’s comeback and made a new record

Bodybuilding-focsued Instagram page, Generation Iron, broke the news of the powerlifter’s new record with a snippet of him engaging in the squat. Petterson-Grifith lifted 744.1 pounds, breaking the previous record of 743 pounds set by Gavin Adin back in 2023. The 205-pound powerlifter did this lift in just three tries.

Petterson-Grifith started with a low weight of 672.4 pounds, then moved to a slightly heavier lift of 716.5 pounds. In the end, once and for all, he broke the record of 743 pounds set by Gavin Adin. This was not an easy lift for the youngster. The 205-pound powerlifter was seen struggling. However, he pushed through and completed the lift.

Even Generation Iron titled the lift “insane.” No doubt, the powerlifter performed exceptionally well and broke the record. But previously, Gavin Adin also created history with his record. Let’s take a look at Adin’s lift.
Battle for the record between two elite powerlifters
The former record holder lifted 743 pounds on February 10, 2024, at the IPF Sheffield Powerlifting Championship this year. Adin had his eyes on the title for quite some time and had lifted similar weights on other occasions, but then, the judges disapproved of the lifts.

Both powerlifters had an intense bout of lifting, starting with Adin lifting 730.8 pounds and breaking the previous record. But suddenly, the 205-pound powerlifter lifted 733 pounds, stealing the record. However, the tables actually turned during the final lift, where Adin lifted 743 pounds, setting a new record.
While Petterson-Grifith had failed then, he has made a strong comeback this time, stealing the record from Adin. One can be sure that Petterson-Grifith has made constant improvements to breach the summit that he failed to scale last time.
