The Halloween actress has been sober for 24 years. Although the journey was arduous, she was grateful. Curtis, in a recent interview with MSNBC, tapped into her past while recollecting her recent stint in ‘The Bear’ season 2, streaming on Hulu and FX. The “Scream Queen” icon did not mince words about her chequered past. She said, “I was an opiate addict, and I liked a good opiate buzz…” And if fentanyl was available, as easily available as it is today on the street, I’d be dead.” 

However, Curtis gathered the courage to leave her habits behind. Furthermore, once she ended her dependence, her life path became “crystal clear” for her. The “Prom Night” actress highlights the devastating effect of addiction on people by saying, “There are women in prison whose lives have been shattered by drugs and alcohol, not because they were violent felons, not because they were horrible people, but because they were addicts.”

The children’s book author is involved in raising awareness of HIV/AIDS and pediatric care. She uses her star power to bring positive change to society. Curtis was glad that she never took any decision under the influence of opioids that she might “regret” all her life. With her deep insights into the psyche of an addict, Curtis acknowledges sobriety as her Everest that she conquered. Her accomplishment was “bigger than my husband, bigger than both of my children, and bigger than any work, success, failure. Anything,” added Curtis. Earlier, the versatile actor reunited with Harry, her on-screen husband, which marked 28 years of the successful True Lies movie. In 2022, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Curtis graced the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, California, and reminisced about the good old days.
