Arnold Schwarzenegger’s bodybuilding career is one to remember, as Arnold is a seven-time Mr. Olympia champion. He was the face of the sport in the 1970s and was the reason behind the sport’s outreach to the masses. However, the legend was defeated in bodybuilding competitions only by a notable few like Frank Zane, Sergio Oliva, and Chester Yorton. Sergio Oliva was the only bodybuilder to defeat the Austrian Oak in the Mr. Olympia contest.

Recently, a picture of the 1969 Mr. Olympia competition resurfaced on the internet. Witnessing the two bodybuilding legends on stage in their prime, the fan community relived the moment as they expressed their thoughts in the comments.

Fans react to Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sergio Oliva’s rare picture

The ‘Old School Gym Facebook page shared the winning moment of ‘The Myth’ at the 1969 Mr. Olympia and captioned the picture, “The time when Sergio beat Arnold Schwarzenegger.” The young Arnie can also be seen in the frame, standing next to the winner. This post took the bodybuilding community back down memory lane as they opened up about their views in the comments section.

A fan remembered how the 75-year-old used to impress the bodybuilding world and posted, “Time beats everyone!” referring to the ultimate truth of life. Another commenter called the Golden era of bodybuilding “The big and smooth days” in the comments section.

Arnold would go on to win multiple times afterwards,” stated another fan, reminiscing about the events that followed Arnie’s defeat in his maiden Mr. Olympia competition. Hinting at the Austrian Oak’s demeanor on the stage in the photo, a fan subtly quoted, “Arnold: I will be back.” While another comment read, “The good old days.” But ‘The Myth’ once compared himself with the Governator, prior to his defeat in 1970 Mr. Olympia.

Sergio Oliva’s huge arm size was surprisingly bigger than The Austrian Oak

In the late 60s, Sergio Oliva once commented about Arnold’s arm size, which was just 19 inches. “The only one who came close to me was Arnold and he was only 19. My arms were so big that they were bigger than my head. I was the only one, cold,” he said.

But the 75-year-old soon focused on his training and built a chest of 57 inches and arms of 22 inches. In 1970, Oliva was shocked when the newbie Arnie defeated him to become Mr. Olympia.
