The 1980s witnessed the action genre take over Hollywood, with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone thrashing sets for their adventurous movies. Their rivalry was a hot topic in tabloids, but the actors later cemented their bond as friends. While Stallone supported Schwarzenegger’s political dreams, the 76-year-old paired with the former for multiple acting ventures.

The Terminator actor appeared in a cameo role in The Expendables in 2010, with Stallone as the lead. Rocky star Stallone also co-wrote the script and directed the action-adventure. In a 2009 interview, Stallone got emotional, narrating the sequence where Arnie, Bruce Willis, and Stallone catch up for a serious talk.

Despite a heated rivalry in the early years of their acting careers, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone ended their differences in the late 1990s. During The Expendables shoot, Arnie ensured to be on the set at 5:30 a.m. for a cameo. The scene that brings the action trio onto the screen for the first time happens at a church, and Stallone was left emotional while speaking of it in 2009.

In an Entertainment Exclusive, “I was just looking at the dailies, saying, ‘Jesus, this is amazing!’ I talked about this scene with these guys for a long time, but I never thought it would come to fruition,” said Stallone, referring to the church scene. The scene begins with Willis and Stallone discussing a hiring deal for an adventurous mission when Arnold Schwarzenegger enters as another prominent professional killer.

And here we are, the three of us trying to man up to one another, playing off of who we are, using our baggage in this one scene,” explains a proud Stallone. The scene set the screen on fire upon its release in 2010, and fans were in awe to witness the superstar trio in one shot. However, bringing in the legendary actors Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis was tough for Sylvester Stallone.

While Arnold Schwarzenegger entered the film industry after a successful bodybuilding career, Stallone started his career with acting stints. Apart from acting, the 77-year-old is a critically acclaimed screenwriter known for his work in the Rocky series.

So, when he took up The Expendables, his goal was to bring actors like Schwarzenegger and Willis on board. Stallone once confessed his dream of featuring certain personalities that never would ever work together normally.” However, he knew, “It’s impossible to get all those egos in the same room.”
