Per a recent article by People, the 75-year-old legend is “reluctant” to recollect the time of his separation from Shriver because it “opens up the wounds again.” Talking about THE moment, when he confessed his affair with their house help, Mildred Baena, he revealed that it happened in a marriage counseling session.

The counselor asked Arnold what Maria couldn’t. “I think today Maria wants to be very specific about something. She wants to know if you are the father of Joseph,” the expert asked. Coming to terms with the harsh reality, Arnie recalled, “And I was like— I thought my heart stopped, and then I told the truth.”
This instance occurred after the icon left his Governor’s office in 2011 and disclosed the details to Shriver after almost a decade of his affair in 1996, per sources. The 25-year marriage ended that year, following their official divorce in 2021. To help with the healing, the journalist reached a convent and sat in silence, looking for answers and peace. She even had a brief conversation with the Reverend Mother, who encouraged her to be brave while Shirver wept uncontrollably.
