In the video, he states, “Remember, muscle is not mostly protein, it’s mostly water.” Now, look at the word carbohydrate. The suffix hydrate means water.” As Mentzer delved into the intricacies of muscle physiology, he explained the connection between carbohydrates and muscle hydration. According to him, when the body stores carbohydrates in the form of glycogen within the muscles, each gram of glycogen binds chemically with 3 grams of water. This symbiotic relationship ensures optimal muscle function and appearance.

Moreover, Mentzer warns that not eating enough carbs, especially during training can have potential consequences. Mentzer further said, “When you go lower than 60% carbohydrates on a high-intensity program, you’re going to burn the glycogen out of the muscle, not restore it.” This makes the water connected to glycogen go away, and your muscles can end up looking flat, plastic, and dehydrated. It’s crucial to keep a good balance of carbs for your muscles to stay healthy and shredded. However, fans found this information intriguing as they flooded the Instagram post with admiration and appreciation.
