When people say Arnold Schwarzenegger held great power within the bodybuilding domain, it’s hard not to disagree. Surely, he worked his way to the top, but once there, there was no looking back. However, he was once defeated by the King of Aesthetics in 1968. Shedding light on his massive stardom, Frank Zane spoke in an interview with host athletes, Milos Sarcev, Chris Cormier, and Dennis James.
The video surfaced on YouTube posted by the official channel of Muscle and Fitness in collaboration with The Menace Podcast with Dennis James. After Sarcev teased the topic of Arnie not doing the side triceps pose, Zane ended up sharing an interesting story from his pro-competing days alongside the Austrian icon.
Arnold Schwarzenegger did what he wanted

As per the video that surfaced on the platform today, the 80-year-old pro guest appeared in their usual roundtable discussions. After touching down on several topics, Sarcev chimed in with the question, “I have a bunch of questions about Arnold, right? Frank, he competed with him, have you ever seen him do the side triceps pose?”
Following a brief pause, Zane said, “I don’t recall,” which left the Serbian athlete cracking up while saying, “for a reason he never did.” Intrigued, James further enquired Sarcev why he thinks Arnold never did the side triceps pose. Therefore, the pro bluntly pointed out, “Arnold was the master of showing what he wanted to show, right? And to hide the weaknesses.”
After justifying his statement with proof from one of his Instagram posts; a picture from the 1980s Mr. Olympia depicting Arnie doing his thing while others did the side triceps, even Zane added some context. “Yeah he never did the compulsories,” the three-time Mr. Olympia added. This urged him to recount a striking instance from the past that substantiated Schwarzenegger’s influence in the industry.
Calling out Arnold Schwarzenegger wasn’t a good idea
As the interview unveiled, once when IFBB Hall of Famer was competing against Arnie, the latter was called out mid-performance by a judge, whose name Zane didn’t happen to recollect. Thus, the American athlete narrated, “Funny story about that, there was a judge I forget the guy’s name..Dennis something, but anyway, he was a judge at that contest and Arnold was doing, it was a prejudging, and Arnold was doing not the compulsory poses, he was doing whatever he wanted.”
Even after several warnings from the judge, the Austrian Oak failed to comply which compelled the judge to disqualify him from the contest. “he said to Arnold, ‘Arnold get off the stage, you’re disqualified,” Zane continued. Surprisingly, nobody listened to the judge’s remarks and he was eventually sent back home that night. Behold the results of that event, “he was through but Arnold prevailed and he ended up winning,” the former athlete revealed. Stunned by the anecdote, Sarcev let out, “It’s good to be king yeah.”
