After working with Tom Cruise on the blockbuster sequel of Top Gun (1986), Monica Barbaro grabbed the opportunity to star beside another Hollywood legend, Arnold Schwarzenegger. In the Netflix series FUBAR, the former ballerina plays the role of The Terminator actor’s daughter. Barbaro recently sat for an interview with Variety and discussed her latest release. As probably the only young actor to work with Tom Cruise and Arnold Schwarzenegger, the interviewer asked the 32-year-old about her experience.
In the interview, Barbaro, who is set to play Joan Baez opposite Timothee Chalamet in Bob Dylan’s biopic, compared the two actors and recounted working with them. She also made the startling revelation that besides being the absolute opposites, Arnie and Cruise’s approach subverts the image people might have of them.

According to Monica Barabro, working with the bodybuilding legend felt nothing like working with the Mission Impossible star. “It’s funny, they could not be more opposite,” said the former ballet dancer. She revealed that the Rain Man actor likes to get involved with the creative side of a project as well. “Tom asks a lot of questions,” Barbaro said.
Barbaro said Cruise wants to learn “every single piece,” of the project he is working on. At this point, many are aware of Cruise’s propensity to perform the death-defying stunts. In Top Gun: Maverick, the 60-year-old star even requested the U.S. Navy for permission to pilot the F/A – 18 Super Hornet. However, per Barabaro, the seven-time Mr. Olympia has a different approach.
“I started asking questions, he’d be like, ‘Better not to know.’ And that’s very trusting,” Barbaro told Variety. While the 32-year-old doesn’t think either approach is better, “it’s just night and day,” she said. However, the Eyes Wide Shut and the Terminator actor also act the opposite of what their public image might suggest.
Despite being a bodybuilding legend, Arnie doesn’t workout between shots and prefers to relax with a cigar. However, Cruise is either “working on the next seven scenes or doing push-ups or something,” she revealed. While the action icons might have a different approach to acting, Barbaro highlighted some similarities.
The common traits of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Tom Cruise
During the interview, the FUBAR actor revealed both The Austrian Oak and Tom Cruise came to set with their lines memorized. The actors also ensured the cast and crew didn’t have to pay for their mistakes. Instead of leveraging their stardom to “push people around,” they care for everyone involved in a project.
