His numerous ventures in different fields have helped him become a household name at this point. After gaining years of experience and knowledge in the field of lifting, one thing that Mike O’Hearn preaches the most is the importance of longevity while training.

Recently, during a podcast on the ‘Generation Iron Fitness and Bodybuilding’ channel, Mike O’Hearn invited Frank Zane as the guest for an episode. Amidst many other things that the duo discussed during the podcast, O’Hearn quoted Zane himself and discussed the importance of training for longevity.

Mike O’Hearn frequently talks about the importance of taking a break from heavy dieting and intense workouts every once in a while. While this allows the body to properly recover from all the intense stimulus, it also gives a mental break to an individual. Lifting iron for more than three decades now, O’Hearn realizes the importance of playing it safe and not risking injuries to ensure you can train in the later years of your life as well. During the podcast, ‘Titan’ also quoted Zane’s previous comment to explain this better.

Remembering his past interaction with Zane, Mike recited what Zane said to him previously. They are gonna hurt themselves, I’m not. You are so factual about that,” said O’Hearn. Replying to this, Zane stated, “I know how to do it, I have been doing it for a long time…I have been training for 60 years…from the age 14 up to now.”

O’Hearn further pointed out that being super strict with the diet and training for a really long period of time can often result in injuries. He revealed that taking such an approach won’t let an individual train for very long. While O’Hearn does indulge in a few fancy and risky movements at times, he knows how to balance out things.

Zane further disclosed that while he has been training for 60 years now, his goals have changed over the years. During his prime years, his main goal was to gain muscle and appear as lean as possible, but over the years, his goals have shifted to maintaining good heart health and indulging in enough cardiovascular activities to maintain his health and well-being.
