Arnold Schwarzenegger became successful in every field he delved into. The Austrian dreamed of becoming the best bodybuilder in the world and went on to win the Mr. Oympia title seven times. The bodybuilding legend achieved it because he invested time in learning about the science behind bodybuilding as he did toiling away at the gym. Arnie also believes a sense of humor is essential, no matter how difficult things get.

The author of Be Useful: Seven Tools for Life recently appeared on The Issue Is on Fox 11. During his conversation with host Elex Michaelson, the 76-year-old recalled how his willingness to learn and sense of humor served him well throughout his life. The bodybuilding icon recounted his debate with independent candidate Arianna Huffington leading up to the 2003 recall election.

While speaking to Michaelson, Schwarzenegger explained how his ability to relentlessly study a topic caught many people off guard. Arnie studied politics like he had studied bodybuilding and acting instead of jumping in blind. Many veteran politicians had expected the Terminator star to be unversed in politics and the issues plaguing California.

However, the 76-year-old revealed he surprised them with his knowledge during debates. However, Schwarzenegger also had an ace up his sleeve. “I knew the issues and also had some good jokes… The other ones didn’t,” said the bodybuilding icon. The 76-year-old author said he believes “everything that you do in life has to have a part of humor… even if you’re deadly sick.”

So when he went to debate opponents during the 2003 recall election campaign he would crack jokes. While debating Ariana Huffington, Schwarzenegger noticed everyone in attendance had a serious look at them. So, the former Mr. Olympia cracked a joke. “I said you know your tax loopholes are so big that they can fit my Hummer through it, and everyone started howling…” said Arnie. Furthermore, the actor hasn’t lost his sense of humor with age.
