Seven times Mr. Olympia Arnold Schwarzenegger has enjoyed all the success that the world of bodybuilding and showbiz had to offer. Unfortunately, he has also faced a fair deal of health-related issues and countless injuries during his stints as a professional bodybuilder as well as a Hollywood star. One of the struggles that he faced was his battle with heart-related issues due to which he had to undergo three heart surgeries.
While ‘The Austrian Oak’ went through multiple heart surgeries, he did not let this get the better of him. While many assume that his heart problems were a result of steroid abuse, as is the case for many bodybuilders, the reality is that Arnold has had a genetic condition since birth. Fortunately, he did get through the surgeries, but can not train as intensely as he once did. Recently, the Austrian Oak talked about his health in a YouTube video.

Despite being at the tough age of 76 years, Schwarzenegger makes sure to train daily and follow a strict diet to maintain his health and well-being. However, the bodybuilding legend who once deadlifted a whopping 700 lbs can not train as heavily as he once used to do. During his time with Richard Wilkins on the Today Show in Australia, he gave a health update. “I’m in good shape but I mean I’ve had three heart surgeries, and you know I was born with, my mother had it, my grandmother had it…the valve issues,” Schwarzenegger stated.
Further, Arnold said, “I have had my share of surgeries and I have to watch out what I eat, and the way I train. I cannot train anymore as heavy as I used to train and stuff.” He revealed that despite this, he is full of energy and is doing well.

Schwarzenegger opens up about the dilemma that he faced
Arnold admitted in his book, ‘Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story,’ that he was told by the doctors that he had two options. The first way to operate would be completely safe but would mean that Arnold can never train again in his life as it would be too much for his heart. The second way to operate would mean that he can train and perform stunts in Hollywood etc. after proper rest and recovery. The only downside would be that the surgery only has a 60-70 percent chance of success.
