According to the?bodybuilding?icon, people have been romanticizing the past for decades. While recently it’s been on social media, decades ago, people used other mediums to claim things were better 5- years ago from that point in time. In his theory, Arnie said people who don’t have a vision for the future find?“it?s easier to look back.”

While the five-time Mr. Universe recounted his past in the docu-series, he repeatedly talked about having a vision. When Arnie came to America, he had a concrete vision of success. After becoming a world-champion bodybuilder, he visualized conquering Hollywood.?‘When you don?t have a vision, today doesn?t have much meaning,”?he wrote.

Arnold also mentioned that people who don’t have that vision don’t know what to expect, the future can seem scary. However, that’s not the way to live, as looking over your shoulder only hampers the progress that can be made in the present. So the 75-year-old told his newsletter readers to find their vision. While the past might seem rosey, no one can live in it.?“You sure as hell can?t find happiness in the past,”?Arnie wrote in Arnold’s Pump Club. However, like in every edition of his newsletter, the 75-year-old explained why his suggestion would work.

Why it’s important to find a vision

The bodybuilding legend didn’t just tell people to figure out the vision for the future, he also told them why it was important. The former Mr. Olympia said,?“a vision gives you a reason to be here, doing whatever you?re doing.”?Schwarzenegger worked tirelessly in the gym?because he visualized the future, lifting the Mr. Olympia title on stage.
