Diet is indeed an indispensable part of fitness and bodybuilding. It helps in boosting energy and creates a healthy lifestyle to attain success easily. But that certainly doesn’t mean one needs to be meticulous enough to weigh everything they are about to eat. Debunking the fad of counting the macros before each meal, former Arnold Classic winner Flex Wheeler opened up about his take on this pressing issue.

The Sultan of Symmetry recently shared a post on his social media where he explained that if you are not taking part in a high-level event, it’s not essential to quantify the meals. In fact, he also touched upon how the golden age bodybuilders never used to measure everything, but they still marveled. Here’s what the veteran has to say.

On April 27, 2023, Wheeler took to his Instagram to share his pearls of wisdom about the proper usage of counting weights while on a fitness journey. A fitness instructor and a former bodybuilder himself, Wheeler knows the drills about the sport. However, he wrote a long post starting with, “Don’t be one of those who sits there and weighs out each meal, counting your macros and micros ‼️…”

Posting a picture of the dietary foods, Wheeler shared, “Weighing out each meal counting your micros and macros” is cerebral. It’s a process that takes time and can only be achieved with patience, consistency, and dedication toward the goal. He also went candidly, “People are expecting to get significant gains within a year or two or even three. The journey of 1000 Miles start with just one step.”

Evidently, the Sultan thinks the measurements are not mandatory if one is not performing on stages like Mr. Olympia and Arnold Classic. In fact, as a former Arnold Classic trophy holder, he stated, “Especially if you’re not competing on a high-level. But even still, in the 70s 80s 90s. Macros and micros weren’t even in our vocabulary.” This indeed brings back the story of Arnold Schwarzenegger, who never tracked his calories.

Arnold Schwarzenegger never counted his macros

Back in his era, The Austrian Oak’s diet was similar to that of his fellow competitors. They used to take a lot of protein in the form of eggs, fish, meat, nuts, and more. Arnold’s go-to diet, combined with his intensive workout routine, gave him the best physique of them all.
