The seven-time Mr Olympia winner Arnold Schwarzenegger is known for disseminating important fitness tips through his newsletter, the Arnold’s Pump Club. Recently, the Terminator actor put out a solution to reduce knee pain without the use of pills.

Schwarzenegger shed light on a basic method that requires no medical attention for treating your knees. Arnie explained how using pills may ease one’s pain, but will, on the other hand, slow the natural recovery process of your body. According to Arnie, a little bit of movement was all that would take to relieve pain in the knees. But what kind of movement does he advocate? 

Arnie’s secret tip can also help improve osteoarthritis

According to Schwarzenegger’s newsletter, short walks can help cure the knee pain you’re suffering from. “Trade the couch for some movement,” Arnie wrote. Short walks reduce stiffness and aches and can also improve osteoarthritis. In the newsletter, he further penned how lack of movement was a major reason behind joint problems. 

Arnie then wrote about research examining people in their 50s suffering from arthritis. For the research, people were divided into two categories: one practiced walking as an exercise, while the other didn’t. The results showed that walking significantly reduced their knee problems.

Despite being a low-intensity workout, walking increases your blood flow throughout the body and also helps with your mobility, while giving strength to your bones. Furthermore, it can help reduce lower back pain as well. As Schwarzenegger says, if you’re yet to experience knee pain, research shows you can keep your knees well-maintained by going on weekly walks. For other health benefits to start reflecting, you will have to aim to complete eight to ten thousand steps per day.

This is not the only kind of advice that Arnie gives out in his newsletter. Sometimes, the Austrian Oak talks about one’s diet as well. Earlier, he had shared some thoughts on alcohol consumption, citing relevant research.

Arnie’s alcohol consumption guidelines

In another newsletter edition, Arnie dropped some harsh truths about the effects of alcohol on your DNA and other health issues caused by it. According to Arnie, “Studies have found that even lower amounts of drinking are linked to an increased risk of higher blood pressure and heart disease, as well as brain shrinkage and liver disease.”

Arnie mentioned that studies have found that those who drink two or fewer drinks a week are out of danger’s way and are safe. However, Arnie’s advice is clear, above and beyond other studies that propose a more liberal limit of six drinks per week. “Be responsible and respect your body,” he penned.
