Winning Mr. Olympia 6 times is not possible without being a genetic elite. Dorian Yates realized this much earlier in his life and did everything in his control to maximize his gains and register his name in the history textbooks. In a recent video posted on YouTube, Yates was asked the age-old question about the performance boost that steroids can provide. While Yates answered the question wisely, he also pointed out that hard work and genetics play a larger role than just PEDs.
The video in question was posted recently by fitness influencer and personal trainer Tanner Shuck on his YouTube channel. The video featured many fitness influencers and bodybuilders who were asked rapid questions by Shuck. While Yates revealed his top three most anabolic food items, he continued by revealing how effective steroids actually are.

Yates disclosed during the video that his favorite muscle-building foods are “Eggs, Beef, Chicken, and supplements.” He later admitted that steroids are actually very effective obviously but they shall not be relied on completely as there are other much more important factors as well. “Let’s say 30-40 percent maybe….it’s gonna make a big difference, let’s not be…uh…make a mistake about that.”
“Whatever percent it is, it applies to everybody so if it makes 30 percent difference, it makes 30 percent difference to everybody…so whoever’s the best is still would be the best,” said Yates. He emphasized that utilizing such compounds does not produce a good physique; rather, it is the food, training, and genetics that produce a champion.
What Dorian Yates said makes complete sense. There are a ton of people that we see in the gym regularly who are on steroids, but not everyone becomes a bodybuilding legend. In a sport like bodybuilding, genetics play a bigger role than just dedication and hard work. Yates has talked about this previously as well. During his teenage years, Yates realized the potential he holds and started utilizing it in the right way.
