The biggest event in bodybuilding has concluded, and the athletes are back to their regular routines. But the current Open Division champion, Derek Lunsford, wasted no time and hit the gym for his Off-season training. He’s been very vocal about his journey and the people who helped him accomplish the hard challenges in life. He’s going to welcome their first child soon.

Recently, Lusford, interacted with his fans on Instagram while walking on the treadmill. During his live session, he answered many questions about the Olympia and his post-winning plans.

Derek Lunsford shares his 2024 plans

While replying to his supporters, one fan asked him if he was going to compete in the Arnold Classic in 2024, because he didn’t participate in 2023. He was solely focused on Mr. Olympia and he won the competition with his sheer dedication and consistency.

However, in response to that question he said, “Well, right now, I’m focused on my baby girl that’s coming”. He further mentioned, “So, for the next few weeks, my wife gets my attention. I’m still going to be training, doing the cardio, and sticking to the bodybuilding lifestyle, because that’s me, that’s how I live. I am bodybuilding. Bodybuilding is me.”

“So, as far as competing and scheduling out events, I’m not going to do that until I know my baby girl is here and I get to spend some time with my family,” the reigning champion is excited to spend his time expanded family and not thinking about any other competition right now. However, he always mentioned his better half whenever he got a chance he even talked about his wife Jhelsin Mabaga during Olympia check-ins.

Lunsford called his wife a ‘backbone’ for him

On 2nd November, OlympiaTV posted a video on their YouTube channel, along with Terrick El Guindy, Chris Cormier, and Lunsford.  While talking to the hosts, Lunsford explained his entire routine and expressed his feelings about his wife and his unborn child.

The Mass Monster praised his wife, “So, you would think that that would be you know hindering to the prep but actually has brought us closer in our marriage and actually having her has strengthened me in this prep. So, again a lot of good things a lot of have happened this year and definitely coming back much improved more than you’ve ever seen I promise you that.” However, he was never afraid to show his belief in god and the supreme power.

He revealed they are going to welcome their first child on New Year’s. The reigning champion expressed his gratitude to his wife, shedding light on her unwavering support, even during her pregnancy. He acknowledges her as the backbone of his journey, appreciating her dedication during this special time in their lives.
