Arnold Schwarzenegger not only pioneered the field of bodybuilding but he also took over Hollywood in the 80s. The genius direction of James Cameron and stoic acting from the 7-time Mr Olympia winner brought one of the most-watched sci-fi thrillers to life: The Terminator. The movie came out in 1984 but it is still a cult classic for youngsters as well.
The movie is not only entertaining but also poses a lot of questions about the future which is not far off anymore. Recently Vice President Kamala Harris spoke about the threats of AI in a speech in London referring to this cult classic movie.

The Vice President detailed how AI can already discriminate against vulnerability and she gave examples of faulty AI that can harm the healthcare system and even privacy. She spoke about the way how world cannot discern fact from fiction because of AI misinformation. Harris explained the evaluation of existential risks but she also asks, “Those are real but one should also ask existential to who?”
Harris brought into the conversation, the age-old movie about robots and technology taking over humanity. She said, “So, we have an image of the Terminator and Arnold Schwarzenegger and the machine and right machine versus man.” Harris knew that whenever someone thinks of AI taking over man, the first image is that of the Austrian Oak as the famous cyborg who is sent back in time from 2029 to 1984 to kill another character in the movie. However, according to her, that version of AI takeover was not an immediate threat.
The movie shows the year 2029 which is not very far away as we are in 2023 and the fear of misuse of AI and environmental threats are real. Even former governor Schwarzenegger who is a huge advocate of environmental health spoke about the threat referring to this movie.
