Seven-time Mr. Olympia?Arnold Schwarzenegger?might be 75, but that doesn’t mean his passion for fitness has waned. The former champion regularly exercises at Gold’s Gym and launched his fitness newsletter in January. Arnie wanted to help people integrate fitness into their daily lives, and so far, it’s been a resounding success. With over 400,000 subscribers, Schwarzenegger’s village has grown exponentially. The 75-year-old has even launched an app where he interacts with those selected to test the app. And recently, one of ‘The Pump’ app users asked the?bodybuilding?legend about weight loss.

The fan said that in some of the?“daily emails”?he read that?“weightlifting is more effective than cardio.”?However, the user also remembered how The Austrian Oak always talked about ramping cardio before competitions.?“So what is the ideal way to lose body fat?”?asked the user. The bodybuilding icon drew upon his decades of experience to answer the question.?”The most effective way to lose body fat is what you eat,”?wrote the seven-time Mr. Olympia in his response. While cardio is essential for weight reduction and fat loss, all the cardio in the world can’t fix a bad diet. The Austrian even had an example to prove his point.

“Walking 10,000 steps burns 300-400 calories on average. That probably takes you 2 hours,”?he wrote. However, if someone thinks they’ve earned some tasty fast food after a 2-hour walk, they’d be making a mistake.?“The smallest hamburger I could find is 400 calories, and it undoes all of that walking in a few minutes,”?the 75-year-old fitness icon explained in the recent edition of Arnold’s Pump Club.

Citing himself as an example, Schwarzenegger said he included cardio during his competitive bodybuilding days.?“It does burn more calories,”?Arnie wrote. Schwarzenegger said he would cut out certain foods?“by feel”?and didn’t count calories. However, Arnie also trained for hours each day. Hence,?“for efficiency, you would target diet first,”?he wrote. Schwarzenegger himself uses these principles to stay fit.

At 75, the bodybuilding icon’s fitness philosophy has remained nearly unchanged. The Austrian Oak wakes up at dawn, feeds his animals, and leaves for Gold’s gym on his bike. The bike ride acts as cardio and also warms up his muscles. During an interview with Chris Wallace, the former Mr. Universe said?his workout session hasn’t changed.

While he can?no longer squat 545 pounds, the bodybuilding icon trains certain muscle groups each day of the week. He also uses exercise machines to stay injury-free. Besides working out, the 75-year-old has switched to a 70% vegan diet. However, he still doesn’t count calories.
