According to a study done by a team of scientists, they found out that nearly one in three people are today facing sleep disorders. Bodybuilding legend who transformed the whole industry and won seven Mr. Olympia titles, Arnold Schwarzenegger, has never missed a chance to share the importance of sleep. In his recent newsletter, Arnold’s Pump Club, he shared not only the importance of sleep but also tips on how to improve it.
The Austrian Oak started by sharing the amount of sleep a person needs to stay healthy. According to the legend, one should at least sleep for six hours. But if you want to witness maximum health benefits, you need to sleep for between seven and nine hours. As his usual self, Arnie shared a study performed on 2000 participants. The researchers found that those who didn’t get enough sleep were more likely to have hardened arteries, and the list continues. But he’s not here to scare anyone. “The first rule of sleep: get a similar amount of rest each night,” said Schwarzenegger.
The next reason he highlighted is a very common mistake most people make when choosing the wrong mattress. “New research suggests that having a slightly cooler mattress can make it easier to fall asleep and lead to higher-quality rest,” said Arnie. Not only can mattresses affect your sleep, but the timing of your last meal can affect it drastically. Schwarzenegger suggested having your last meal two hours before bedtime. This lets you sleep through the night without waking up and have a generally better quality of sleep.

The Terminator star also shared an “Ideal Pre-Bed Snack.” Scientists found that eating enough fiber before sleep enhances sleep quality. The Austrian Oak explained, “Research suggests for every 10 grams of fiber you eat, you have four fewer sleep disruptions per hour of sleep.” The seven-time Mr. Olympia also emphasized the importance of having a consistent bedtime.
“According to researchers, maintaining an irregular sleep schedule can lead to a shorter life. This is similar to the first rule of sleep, but it’s not just about how much time you spend sleeping; it’s the consistency of when you shut down each night.,” stated Schwarzenegger. The researchers also found that sleeping irregularly leads to atherosclerosis.

Along with the tips to improve your sleep, he also shared the benefits of a good night’s sleep.
