Tom Platz was known for his quads and was bestowed with the name, the Quadfather by the bodybuilding community. Even if he never won Mr Olympia he was an incredibly gifted athlete and will always be counted amongst the greatest. He gained immense popularity worldwide for his gigantic physique and amazing persona. Even after retiring from the career, people still remember him and his contribution to the industry.

He simply decided to return the gratitude by uploading a video on Instagram and talking about how he was loved and appreciated by the fans despite not winning Mr Olympia.

The Uncrowned Mr. Olympia

In the Instagram video, while announcing a new venture, he also decided to thank his fans and followers. He greeted everyone and showed his gratitude to all his fans throughout the world for treating him like Mr. Olympia for all these years. He said, “I get my energy from you all. I’ve been in the business for 58 years. But it’s been a great career, I did not win the Olympia, and I’m in 3rd and your guts treated me promoted me throughout the years, and allowed me to live the life of Mr Olympia.”

The man started bodybuilding at a very young age and was intrigued by a muscle magazine photo featuring late bodybuilders Dave Draper and Betty Brosmer.

Finally, he delved into the career and made a huge name for himself despite not being crowned Mr. Olympia.

Tom Platz’s inspiration

In one of his interviews, the Golden Eagle described his inspiration by saying, “I looked at that picture, and it was like, “God! I don’t believe this.” It was an incredible transformational moment that changed my life forever. That photo just motivated me and inspired me and said something to me – about the physicality of California, about lifting weights and having muscles of iron.” 

Platz was also inspired by Arnold Schwarzenegger when he was only nine years old and he started his training in the basement of his house. His father used to train him and his siblings used to count his reps and that is how he became the most famous bodybuilder in the world.
