Joey Swoll has made a name for himself by calling out people who make fun of others in the gym. However, fans think Joey Swoll is committing the wrong he preaches against in his latest video. In the video, Swoll expressed his disappointment at a clip of a young guy performing muscle up on the wrong gym equipment. However, fans had their own interpretation of Swoll’s video.

Through the last few years, the bodybuilder has earned the moniker of CEO of Gym Positivity. However, this time many fans turned against the fitness influencer. While most of it might’ve been nothing but banter, some may have been quite serious.

Joey Swoll uploaded a video with the caption, “If only there was a bar made for pull-ups…” The clip he used showed a young guy doing muscle-ups on a Smith machine. Muscle-ups are pull-ups but far more difficult because you have to pull your chest over the bar and then perform a dip. While the movement gets easier by generating momentum, the Smith machine couldn’t handle it.

As the bar designed to do squats failed, the boy fell and seemed to hit his head on the pavement before getting up. In the following clip, Swoll appeared, and pointed at an actual pull-up bar designed to handle the weight. He pointed at it and walked away, shaking his head. However, the entire tone and message of the video didn’t land with his followers. So, a section of the fitness community decided to use the bodybuilding coach’s message against him.

The fitness community quotes Joey Swoll

“So now you’re shaming newbies? Mind your business, ya need to do better,” wrote one fan. While muscle-ups are not a newbie-friendly exercise, the fan couldn’t resist using Swoll’s tagline on him. “Shame on you for making fun of that kid,” said another fan. “Hey! Mind your own business buddy,” commented another.

However, some came to the fitness influencer’s defense. “Yes, this has to be the new trend! For those of the people saying he’s shaming newbies, his recent videos seem to be more geared toward preventing injury and spreading safety awareness. Lots of crazy injuries in the gym days!” stated one follower. “What did he expect doing that on the Smith machine?” questioned another.
