Arnold Schwarzenegger’s high aspirations since childhood made him find opportunities for success. When he came across Reg Park’s movie poster, he was fascinated by the latter’s ripped physique. Soon, he strived to build a physique that could win him bodybuilding titles. In 1968, he traveled to the U.S.A. to achieve heights in the bodybuilding arena. But his life in America has not only gifted him seven Mr. Olympia titles but also other things. With his skills, he became one of the finest ever Hollywood action superstars. He also earned people’s trust with time and became the Governor of California for two terms.

In his recent newsletter (Arnold’s Pump Club) edition, Arnold Schwarzenegger recalled how it has been forty years since he became an American citizen in 1983. So, he took his fitness village down memory lane to the times when he first arrived in the U.S.A.

The Austrian Oak’s life reached new heights on American soil, with him earning worldwide fame and name through his athletic and acting career. However, the initial phase in the foreign country came with “cultural shocks” for the Austrian immigrant. While recounting the incidents of 55 years ago, Arnie wrote in his newsletter, “In 1968, it seemed like everything was happening at once in America, and it was completely out of control.

Robert F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr. were assassinated,” he said while recounting the horrors of the past when he first came to the country to realize his dreams. He also mentioned the Vietnam War and the riots during those times. “Hippies were just lying around Haight Ashburn in San Francisco sm*king pot (including me),” he revealed.

For young Arnie, who was new to the language and culture of America, it all came as a surprise. “You can imagine that for a 21-year-old, fresh off-the-plane immigrant, this was a lot to take in. It was a major shock,” he said in his newsletter. But a resolved and courageous Schwarzenegger went ahead with his American dream, living three lives in one lifetime. Despite his unparalleled achievements and contributions to the country, the 76-year-old couldn’t achieve one of his political dreams.
