Former Mr. Universe Milos Sarcev recently posted an image from his bodybuilding prime on Instagram. The image was a collage of four pictures of him posing at the Ironman Pro Invitational in the 90s. While the collage showed off the bodybuilding legend’s on-stage shredded physique, Milos Sarcev wrote about something else in the caption.
The 59-year-old, renowned bodybuilding coach wore about the lighting of the Ironman Pro. “Ridiculous IRONMAN LIGHTS!!! I just took some screenshots from the video I posted earlier,” wrote the veteran bodybuilder. Sarcev asked why that immaculate lighting from “30+ years ago,” cannot be replicated in today’s bodybuilding shows. His fans had the answer.

The retired bodybuilder’s physique looked incredible in each of the four images used in the collage. 90s conditioning has become a legendary phrase among bodybuilding fans. The photographs showed how Milos Sarcev was a shining example of that phrase. Despite the images being screenshots from a video, every muscle fiber was visible.

However, that might not have been the case if the stage lights had been poor. The angle at which light hits the physique of the bodybuilder posing under it accentuates the highlights and shadows, exposing every detail. However, poor lighting can do the opposite making even the most conditioned physique look flat on camera.
Milos Sarcev asked his fans if the lighting from the older shows could be replicated today. The bodybuilding community pointed out something else that’s responsible for messing up the lighting.

The bodybuilding community knows what went wrong
Sadly, people have complained for years about the lighting used in modern shows, including Mr. Olympia. “The Olympia is too busy trying to sell every square inch of real estate behind the athletes for promotions,” commented one fan. The fan claimed that the LED screens playing ads in the background make the images look “washed out.”
“Let’s bring back black backdrops,” added the fan. “Absolutely! It’s a bodybuilding show, not ad and promos show,” another fan wrote in agreement. “It’s the background as well. All those screens…” commented one Instagram follower. “I have been saying this for years….” commented another fan.

Others simply lamented how the lighting in bodybuilding shows became worse despite technological advancements. “Crazy how lights technology has become worse these days,” wrote the fan. Do you think the lighting has become worse? Or do modern cameras capture enough detail, and the black backdrops are no longer required? Tell us in the comments.
