Andre Braugher, Captain Raymond Holt of the hit comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine, has passed away at the age of 61. Braugher’s death comes as a shock to millions across the world who had come to love and admire him for his memorable roles in movies and shows across the last three decades. Braugher leaves behind his wife of 30 years, Ami Brabson, and their three sons, Michael, Isaiah, and John. According to reports, the American actor had been suffering from a brief illness, and his body could not fight anymore. 

Tributes for Braugher have been pouring in from various corners of the world, and the bodybuilding community is no exception. Lee Priest, a prominent bodybuilder and avid admirer of Andre Braugher’s portrayal of Captain Holt in the acclaimed NBC/Fox comedy series, conveyed his condolences to the late actor’s friends and family through an Instagram post. Priest shared a poignant image of the late actor from the film ‘Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer,’ and wrote, Sad the passing of Andre Braugher great actor condolences to all his friends and family.”

Braugher’s career spanned across decades, but it was his role as Captain Holt that brought the actor’s charisma and charm to the common man’s drawing rooms. The 11-time Emmy-nominated actor’s role as a gay black captain in charge of a New York City police precinct was an assault on the stereotypical portrayals of people of marginalized communities and he shall always be remembered and celebrated for it.

Millions mourn the loss of Captain Raymond Holt

Fans across social media platforms have been sharing clips of some of his most memorable moments on screen. Commenting on Lee Priest’s post, many fitness enthusiasts also joined in paying their tributes to Braugher. “RIP Legend,” wrote one user. Talking about his role in the hit series, another user commented, “Rest in peace Captain.”

Marc Evan Jackson, who played Braugher’s husband Dr Kevin Cozner in Brooklyn Nine-Nine also joined the community in grieving the loss of the beloved actor. In a reference to the popular poem, Jackson posted a picture with Braugher on X and wrote, “O Captain. My Captain.”

The Batman director Matt Reeves also posted about the actor’s death, calling him a beautiful and soulful person. “My heart goes out to his family,” Reeves penned down in a post on X.

People of the LGBTQA+ community, who saw themselves in Captain Holt have also been sharing the positive impact he had on their lives. One user even talked about how watching one of Braugher’s scenes from Brooklyn Nine-Nine “helped” them during the process of coming out.

But it wasn’t just fans of Brooklyn Nine-Nine either. Braugher’s Frank Pembelton from Homicide: Life on the Street also left a deep impact on the millions who watched it.

For the uninitiated, Braugher also voiced the character of DC villain Darkseid in the animated film, Superman/Batman: Apocalypse and was admired for bringing the dreaded old God to life.
