Regretting Drunk Comment Made to Ex-Wife’s Mother, Arnold Schwarzenegger Confessed in 1999 Why He Owned Up to the Mistake

Megastar, Arnold Schwarzenegger is known for his forthright and bold demeanor. However, this persona once got him into trouble after he babbled something inappropriate in front of his now ex-wife, Maria Shirver’s mother. Upon their first meeting, the actor was apparently, drunk which encouraged the “stupid” mistake. A resurfaced interview from 1999, which was recently posted by the TV host, Conan O’Brien, on YouTube, shed light on the instance.

Schwarzenegger was quite frank about his mistake and confirmed that the information is true. Yet, he didn’t seem to regret it, since, everything had worked out well between the couple later on.

As per the two-decades-old video that resurfaced hours ago, the 75-year-old legend’s guest appearance on Late Night with Conan O’Brien was rather, a memorable one. The host picked on his past incident with Shirver’s mother, asking if he told her mother that his wife had a “great b*tt?” Astonished by the news, the 6’2” athlete exclaimed, “First of all, where did you get that information I mean, this is inside information.” 

However, he confirmed the information and shared, “but anyway you’re absolutely right I did say that it was a mistake.” The pro, claimed that it was one of those “mistakes” that one utterly regrets later on. Furthermore, he went on to narrate the whole incident. “I met my wife and her mother came over and says this is my daughter and I said, I know,” Schwarzenegger continued. “I said Eunice I just want to tell you your daughter has a great b*tt and she’s managed to say oh very nice Arnold,” he told while subtly imitating her mother-in-law’s awkward reaction.

Interestingly, the champion disclosed that if given the chance, he would’ve done it all over again. “I would just say that she has a great b*tt that was my mistake you know,” the Austrian Oak let out. The Hollywood star hardly felt regretful, per the video. He claimed that in the end, everything worked out well, he married Shriver and grew into a beautiful family of four. Hence, he concluded, “so obviously I did the right thing, right?” The episode had long been a point of speculation by the media, as it was spotlighted previously in 2012. 

Arnold Schwarzenegger clarifies his mistake

Talking to CBS News, Schwarzenegger once opened up about his questionable episode with his ex-wife’s mother, after the couple got separated in 2011. The host asked him about his first impression of Shriver, to which he replied with a heartfelt response. “She had the most extraordinary personality, laughing all the time, full of joy, full of energy … I don’t remember ever having met anybody like that,” he spoke. 

Nevertheless, when he enquired about his first meeting with her mother, Arnie got the sweats. He confessed, “Yeah, something stupid, obviously, I said, ‘Your daughter has a great a**.” Moreover, he tried to justify his statement by asserting that he probably was drunk at the scene. He told, “I had a little bit too much to drink, I guess.”

The star ex-couple had been going strong for more than two decades, before separating and finally divorcing in 2021. Despite all the tumult, they have taken the responsibility to maintain a positive relationship for the betterment of their family.
