Larry Wheels is known for his resilience, perseverance, and physical and mental prowess. A powerlifter-turned-bodybuilder holds two powerlifting records, including one in 2017 when he lifted 2275 lbs in the 275lb weight class and a second one in the year, 2020 he broke his own world record by lifting 2370 lbs in the 308 lb weight class. 

It comes as a bolt out of the blue when a 28-year-old young powerlifter fell ill and was diagnosed with Rhabdo disease, which can lead to kidney damage. There are numerous odds stacked against Larry. However, despite the boatload of atrocities on his back, Wheels decided to fulfill his dream of opening a gym. In his recent video, Wheels and Andrei Dieu are seen working out. 

Larry Wheels’ recovery and return to training

Larry Wheels and Andrei Dieu, a champion of the 2017 Amateur Olympia. In 2020, under the tutelage of Hany Rambod, he secured the fifth position in the Mr. Olympia. Moreover, in the YouTube shorts, both were performing 150 lb dumbbell shoulder presses in a gym, helping each other out. The post was captioned, “Monster shoulders with Andrei Deiu and Larry Wheels. Larry’s getting stronger.” As Andrei said, “Rear Delts Looking Crazy.” Professedly, it seems Larry Wheels slowly is going back to his everyday life. The athlete’s hospitalization due to excessive dosage of Performance-Enhancing Drugs (PEDs) to increase muscle strength led to a life-threatening disease Rhabdomyolysis. 

In one of his Instagram stories, Larry talked about his struggle after getting discharged from the hospital. Though the young powerlifter is back in the gym, he is undergoing an immense effort, as he quotes, “Not being able to bring arms in makes it hard to get a good contraction.” He was trying to pull a 10-rep set on a heavy shoulder press machine. Although Wheels was able to complete the workout, the struggle was evident on his face.

Nevertheless, apart from undergoing a struggle, Larry is finally standing in his own gym at Claremont, and his gym is half-ready to train fitness enthusiasts. The powerlifter’s last few months were full of twists and turns, though now Wheels can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. Fans are frantic and happy to see the bodybuilder back.

Fans got gaga after watching Wheel and Dieu at the gym

When the video got viral, fans were uplifted with a yearning to see their favorite bodybuilder-cum-powerlifter making world records. One of the fans said, Larry! You will blast one day if you keep going on like this.” One of the comments said, “Larry looks like he was struggling at first, not in the smart way or anything. But he is good now after that.” Fans were getting frenzied watching the duo together, as one of the comments stated, “Andrei would win in a pose down, and probably a wrestling match would end in Andrei pinning Larry into submission.”
